Barclaycard data research has shown that spending via contactless card technology has almost doubled since the limit rose from £20 to £30 in September 2015.The research showed that pubs and bars have benefitted most with a 92% increase in contactless spending, followed by fast-food outlets with a 62% increase and restaurants with a 51% increase.

One in ten transactions are now made via contactless payment with spending via this system nearing £1b per month, 8 in 10 consumers also reported using less cash than a year ago with 19% admitting that they get annoyed in they aren’t able to pay with a contactless card.

This fast easy method of payment is now accepted at more than 300,000 terminals across the UK and new contactless devices are being launched regularly as the technology is used in watches, wristbands and fobs.
