Lennox Launches Wi-Fi Enabled Thermostat
HVAC OEM Lennox Industries released the icomfort Wi-Fi Thermostat, a remotely enabled thermostat that lets homeowners customize HVAC comfort and energy savings from anywhere via a smartphone or other web-enabled device. The thermostat communicates with the home heating and cooling system to allow remote setting. It offers one-touch energy-saving "Away" mode activation. The thermostat also provides alerts to the homeowner and installing service provider about needed repair or maintenance. The system is designed to integrate with an existing air purification system and dehumidifier. The unit also displays real-time weather. It monitors outdoor conditions to make automatic adjustments and to optimize indoor air quality. "Although home automation has been at the top of builders' and homeowners' lists for many years, it is really just starting to pick up momentum in the heating, cooling and indoor air quality space, and we believe icomfort Wi-Fi will lead the way," said John Hurst, vice president, product management at Lennox International. "Lennox is furthering its commitment to provide homeowners with products that make it increasingly easy and affordable to be energy efficient." Customisable skins transform the thermostat's touch-screen to assume the look of any wall color or pattern - or the homeowner can upload a photo, allowing the thermostat to operate as a digital picture frame. We here at Foster Fridge have been looking forward to being able to receive alerts from our refrigeration equipment for some time. Receiving a text alert if internal fridge temperatures fluctuate outside a prescribed range or machines unexpectedly power off due to a power failure could save thousands of pounds worth of stored food. The G2 Range is advanced, but it’s not internet connected... yet.
